We are now into the second year of the pandemic and while we eagerly await a go ahead to resume our activities, we must still bide our time before making firm plans for meetings and regular events. We haven’t been idle over the past year. Board and committee meetings were held remotely via Zoom. Our scholarship program remains active: we have awarded grants to four students of Polish descent in 2020 and are currently accepting applications for 2021. Last December we held a very successful Virtual Wigilia and this past March we hosted an online meeting with Annik LaFarge, author of the book Chasing Chopin: A Musical Journey Across Three Centuries, Four Countries, and a Half Dozen Revolutions. Both these events are available for viewing on the PAAA YouTube channel.

As more people get vaccinated and restrictions are lifted or modified, we will be making make decisions regarding any activities later in the year. Updates will be provided here, on the PAAA Facebook page, and through email notifications. If you are not on our mailing list but would like to receive updates on our activities, please send a request to paaanewsletter@gmail.com and you will be included.

We hope that you and your family are well and safe an we look forward to the time, hopefully soon, when we can all get together again in person and celebrate our Polish culture and traditions in the Nation's Capital. In the meantime, let's stay in touch through the modern wonder of electronics.

A CHOPIN EVENT: Meeting with Author Annik LaFarge

On Sunday, March 21, 2021 at 3 PM, the PAAA will host a virtual Zoom presentation: Chopin on the High Line: The Romantic Spirit in Music and Landscape, by the acclaimed writer Annik LaFarge, author of Chasing Chopin: A Music Journey Across Three Centuries, Four Countries, and a Half-Dozen  Revolutions.

To participate, please register here

The event is free and all are welcome to attend. Since the ongoing pandemic situation prevents us from holding our annual Chopin Concert, voluntary donations to the PAAA Scholarship Fund will be warmly welcomed and can be made while registering for the event.

The author, Annik LaFarge, will also donate a portion of proceeds from sales of Chasing Chopin to the PAAA Scholarship Fund. Purchases must be made through the Politics & Prose online bookstore. Please include the code  SPECIAL10 at the checkout.
